After looking through google images of this bird, I have to say you are spot on! Even down to the little details around the eye!

I would have to say my favorite thing about this particular piece is the way you make the feathers fray on the bottom of his belly and legs.

Thank you very much, I see what you mean, I have noticed that some birds not only loose certain feathers out of breading season, like the pheasant and the peacock, but their general appearance goes a little to pot, I have just spent 3 weeks in Goa (India) photographing birds as reference for future pictures.
The seasons in India correspond with the seasons here in the UK, so the birds were not in top condition, in fact most of them looked like they have been dragged through a hedge backwards! :iconhummingbirdplz:

Even the most beautiful of creatures have bad hair days, Or weeks, in birds cases XD

That must have been fun though, you can find pictures of birds in top condition anywhere, but finding them when they are looking pretty un-polished is definetly unique.

Do you think you will ever try and paint one of those pictures you took?

Yes, I not only have some cool but shabby birds I will paint but also some other wonderful creatures, especially monkeys.
I have started uploading some of these pics to my other dA account for other people to use as refs or for manipulations etc...

I used to have a monkey when I was growing up. They are great pets until they mature, then they can get kind of scary.

I image in the wild that they would be happier though.

Can you link me to your other account? I'd love to see.

Yes, these were a happy crew, content, gentle and friendly, they would take food from the hand without snatching or any other kind of aggressive behaviours!
You can find the link to my other account in the journal on my page!

That's great! Like a lot of animals they are much happier to be surrounded by their friends. mellows them out greatly!

I found it! Now watching it. Cant wait to see what goodies you upload to it overtime.
